"Sandy Pines gets a major makeover"

"With water hazards at every turn, expansive bunkers, increased yardage from the championship tees and rolling fairways - golfing just got a bit more challenging and a lot more scenic at Sandy Pines Golf Course in DeMotte."

Under the new ownership of S.P. Real Estate, LLC, major renovations have taken place. Brand new tee boxes, including a Senior set of tees, have been added to the course layout. The course now has four sets of tees to choose from. A new state of the art irrigation system has also been put into place to water the new bent grass fairways. New sand has also been hauled in to fill the greenside and fairway bunkers. Dirt has also been trucked in to create new fairway mounds to add a little variation to the course. Newly paved cart paths have also been installed.

Tim Nugent, designer of White Hawk in Crown Point, has been responsible for helping design the changes to the course. Cary Jeffries, the new grounds superintendent, is now in charge of the daily upkeep of Sandy Pines. Jeffries has 29 years of experience maintaining golf courses including several years at Curtis Creek Country Club in Rensselaer

"We feel we have a great layout and provide a nice setting for anyone who would like to come play the course... We think that when finished, the course will be in the same caliber as any of the well known courses in the state of Indiana and the Chicago land area."

The majority of the greens were untouched and are well known to be some of the best in the area.
